Our Story

A place to fail forward

What heals us in transforming our inner stories into performance art is not just the few minutes we spend onstage, but the act of creation itself. Every step we choreograph and every line we write is a somatic process—one that allows us to alchemize what we once carried alone into art that can be held in community. Whether you are a seasoned professional or someone with a lifelong crush on the arts, Saltshake offers a place to fail forward in your creative discoveries and land closer to your authentic voice.

meet the founder

A dancer by training and theater kid by Gemini placements, Megan founded SaltShake Productions & Dance Theater Company, The Frettes, with the belief that artmaking leads to healing. Megan’s mission was shaped partly by a Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training in 2022, an experience that highlighted the importance of movement in Trauma Recovery. Though the “how,” was unclear, Megan felt what was simply known then as SaltShake, was meant to be a hub for creative healing. In 2023, Megan shifted her focus to her own creative work, SUZETTE, a play that personified a potent stress reaction into an alter-ego of the same name. The process was transformative, and SUZETTE premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024. Upon returning to Seattle in the fall of ‘24, Megan turned SaltShake into SaltShake Productions, so that other artists would have a home to fail forward in transmuting their innermost stories into performance art that heals. 3..2..1, the first SaltShake Original show format, debuted at S.O.A.P. in November 2024 and returned for monthly productions in February 2025. 3..2..1 will continue to be held monthly at S.O.A.P in 2026 with the addition of a brand new format, “F-Genre,”  and virtual format, “Paying Dues.”
